Bats are beautiful! Night Workshop
False Vampire Bat

Bats are awesome flying mammals. They are important to us as they help pollinate plants that in turn produce fruit for us. Insect-eating bats help control our insect-pest numbers, while fruit-eating bats help disperse seeds that contribute to our forests. Join us this evening for a fun lesson and bat-watching session!

Date: Saturday, 19 June 2010
Time: 5.30pm - 8.00pm
Venue: HortPark, Hands-On-House
Fee: $20.00 per child (Suitable for children above 5 years old)

"Bats are Beautiful"
Hortpark, 14 November 2009

“Bats are Beautiful” was our first kids’ night workshop at HortPark and it was an awesome success! Thirty-seven kids got to know more about our native bat species through a card game, a short lesson, a chance to make a presentation on one of our native bat species, mask-making, looking for bats in the night sky using a bat detector, and watching a wayang kulit (or shadow puppet show) on why bats are important to people.

Cicada Tree Eco-Place would like to thank all volunteers, especially the student-teachers of NIE who conducted the wayang kulit and assisted with the hands-on activities. Thanks, too, to our regular volunteers Teresa, Tia and Irene. Our appreciation too to HortPark for accommodating us. For those who missed this workshop, watch out for a repeat session on 20th March 2010, registration through HortPark.
